I wrote this book in the summer and fall of 2022, the first weeks of my son’s life, one essay per film, each one watched with him asleep in my arms. For four years it lived as a PDF. I passed it to friends and family who were new parents, and never got around to proper layout or an index. Now it goes to print: twenty films, an essay on each, week-by-week notes from the fourth trimester, and a photograph of him in front of the television for every one.
